SpaceX Special Event (2022):

New Starship animation released

Just a few days before Valentine's Day, and SpaceX is doing everything they can to steal our hearts! A new animation video has been released that illustrates the company's dedication to catch the Super Heavy booster with a massive tower and it's 'chopstick' arms.

SpaceX Special Event (2021):

Inspiration4

On Wednesday, September 15 at 8:02 p.m. EDT, 00:02 UTC on September 16, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 successfully launched the Inspiration4 mission – the world’s first all-civilian human spaceflight to orbit – from historic Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

After three days orbiting Earth, Dragon and the Inspiration4 crew safely splashed down off the coast of Florida at 7:06 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 18, 2021, completing their first multi-day low Earth orbit mission.

SpaceX Special Event (2020):

SN8 - First Starship Launch

On December 9th, 2020, the SpaceX team made the first attempt of a high-altitude suborbital flight test of Starship serial number 8 (SN8) from the launch site in Cameron County, Texas. This suborbital flight was designed to test a number of objectives, from how the vehicle’s three Raptor engines perform to the overall aerodynamic entry capabilities of the vehicle (including its body flaps) to how the vehicle manages propellant transition. SN8 also attempted a landing flip maneuver, which is a first for a vehicle of this size - unfortunately, the vehicle appears to have lost an engine and experienced rapid-unplanned-disassembly on touch down.

Skip to 1:47:06 in the above video if you would only like to see the launch. It is important to note, with a test such as this, success is not measured by completion of specific objectives but rather how much SpaceX can learn. Flight data (even crash data) will inform and improve the probability of success in the future as SpaceX rapidly advances development of Starship. From Rocket Downrage, congratulations SpaceX Team! Truly history in the making!

A mission that was a longtime in the making, Crew Demo-2 was a manned test flight of the Crew Dragon spacecraft developed by SpaceX. The launch occured on May 30th of 2020, the astronauts spent 2 months in low earth orbit at the International Space Station and then returned to Earth on August 2nd of 2020. This event marks the first time since the final Space Shuttle mission (STS-135) in 2011 that American astronauts were launched on American rockets from American soil. The mission was manned by Commander Douglas Hurley and Joint-Operations Commander Robert Behnken and lasted 63 days - 9 hours and 8 minutes.

Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster / Falcon Heavy Demo

Date: Tue Feb 06 2018

Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster is an electric sports car that served as the dummy payload for the February 2018 Falcon Heavy test flight and is now an artificial satellite of the Sun. Starman, a mannequin dressed in a spacesuit, occupies the driver's seat. The car and rocket are products of Tesla and SpaceX. This 2008-model Roadster was previously used by Musk for commuting, and is the only consumer car sent into space.
